Fall Back into Yourself
Sep 16, 2022There was a time, long ago, when I was sitting among 40 meditators and our teacher said "Fall back into yourself."
When I heard that phrase, my whole being relaxed.
Since then I've thought a lot about why the cue to fall back into yourself can be so helpful - not just for formal meditation practice, but also for life in general.
1. Life is a constant ebb and flow. Sometimes we extend our energy more outward - towards activities and other people. And sometimes we need to direct our attention more inwardly. Meditation offers us a chance to fall back into ourselves after being depleted or over extended.
2. Most of us are very aware of our FRONT body, but disconnected from our back body. We look at ourselves in the mirror, we converse with people face to face, and we interact with the world in a very visual way. Falling BACK into ourselves can help us be more fully embodied and include the experiences and sensations of our entire self - not just the self that we see in a mirror.
3. There is always a calm and centered self that you can fall back into. This might be the biggest lesson of all. When we feel anxious or overwhelmed, many of us lose our sense of self. We don't even know who we are, or what we like, or where to go. When we fall back into OURSELVES, we are remembering that our body and our wisdom are always here for us.
I hope these ideas are helpful!
