Ayurvedic Workshops & Courses

The Following is a list followed by descriptionsof the workshops and advanced courses that Sally offers.

Introduction to Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that has been practiced in India for over 5,000 years.  Spreading to the West as a “sister science” of Yoga, it offers tremendous insight into how we can live healthier, more balanced lives. Through understanding our connectedness to Nature, Ayurveda sees each person as a unique combination of the 5 elements – ether, air, fire, water, and earth.  These elements come together in different ways to form different body types, personality traits, and tendencies for specific diseases. In this workshop, we will discuss how to understand your constitution, and how this information can help you to find your unique state of balanced health.  We will discuss how to use food as “medicine,” as well how to improve digestion and increase immunity through simple Ayurvedic recipes and remedies.

4 week Ayurvedic Food Sadhana Course

Each night will begin with a serving of warm kitchari, a delicious and simple dish made with  lentils and rice.  We will then spend time in the yoga space discussing, chanting, or meditating as the curriculm below describes.  Then, we will step into the kitchen for silent hands-on sadhana time - preparing and being with food.  Each person will be given a hands-on project and clear instructions before entering the kitchen.

The sadhana time in silence is important to the practice of mindful cooking, and working mentally with the mantras that we will be learning.  Some of the mantras we will learn are long, and take practice to memorize, while others are very short, and can be repeated immediately in your mind while cooking - to en-vibe the food with healing energy and conscious intention.

The evening will conclude with a short question and answer session while we eat what has been lovingly prepared!.

Ayurvedic Women’s Health: Understanding Our Hormones

Women’s bodies inherently move in rhythms along with the levels of hormones in our blood.  These rhythms manifest as menstruation and menopause, and are as natural to female life as the ability to give birth.  So why is it that so many women suffer through pain or confusion during these times of change?  In this workshop, we will discuss how to understand these rhythms, and seek to provide soothing relief to the confusion and pain - both on a physical and emotional level.

Discussion of estrogen, progesterone, and other essential hormones will help us to gain wisdom into how to ease our symptoms.  We will review how diet and lifestyle affect things such as hot flashes, irritability, menstrual cramps, and feelings of unexplained sadness.

Remedies and Recipes will be given to ease the transitions around Menopause, as well as to ease painful menstruation.  A specific yoga sequence that is beneficial for both Menopause and Menstruation will be provided.
